Character.AI is a chatbot that has gained significant popularity because of its ability to generate highly realistic and coherent dialogue, making it a valuable tool for various domains.

One can use the bot for customer support, virtual assistants, language translation services, and much more. However, users feel that it lacks in some places.

Character.AI users demanding option to delete characters or bots

Multiple Character.AI users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) have been expressing their wish for the option to delete characters or bots on the platform.

Users have been requesting this option to get rid of characters that they no longer need or want to share with others. They are also asking for it as they get annoyed by the listing of bad or useless bots in their character lists.

Understandably, it is quite frustrating if one accidentally ends up creating two variants of the same chatbot as well. And as per the claims, one can only clear out the bot’s definition and redo it if they desire.

Users have been actively requesting this feature for months, but unfortunately, it has still not been introduced.

One of those affected says that they can only delete messages out of a chat and cannot delete a chat, a character, or even their own account.

Another user mentions that they change the definitions of the unwanted bots and utilise them as templates for other bots, as there is no way to completely remove them.

Although it must be noted that the option to edit bots was initially available. However, after users protested on the platform by deleting their chatbots, the developers took away their privileges to edit them. 

Even though they claimed that the changes were temporary, it has been about half a year since they have been in effect.

The only solution for now is that you set all the created bots to private to prevent the public from utilising and gaining any data from them.

No official response

Unfortunately, Character.AI has not officially responded to the matter. But we do hope that it will consider the users’ feedback and introduce an option to delete bots.

That said, we’ll keep tabs on developments around this topic and update this story as soon as we come across any noteworthy information.
