Snapchat users often report different issues with the service and while some of them get fixed over time, there are some that keep troubling users for a long time.

A few months back, some users reported that their accounts were getting temporarily banned for repeatedly failed login attempts. This problem hasn’t been addressed yet as users continue to report it.

Snapchat users bombarded with spam or porn bot requests

With that said, another issue has popped up — or we can say resurfaced — that is ruining the user experience. Per the reports, a section of Snapchat users are being bombarded with spam or porn bot requests.

According to those affected, they send unsolicited messages and friend requests, which include spam links and pornographic content.

Users report that they get multiple friend requests from bots within a day, which is obnoxious.

These spam accounts aren’t only a nuisance, but they can also be a security risk, as some may attempt to scam users or steal personal information.

This isn’t the first time users are reporting this problem. Some old reports (1, 2) suggest that a similar case has happened in the past as well. And yet Snapchat hasn’t addressed this issue.

Temporary solution

However, there is something you can do to avoid these kinds of spam on the platform. Making some changes in your Snapchat settings can prevent these spam accounts from showing up on your profile.

  1. Open Snapchat
  2. Tap your account icon (your avatar) on the top left.
  3. Then, go to Settings by tapping on the gear icon.
  4. Tap on ‘Contact me’, under the Privacy Controls section.
  5. If it is set to Everyone, then change it to ‘My Friends’

Unfortunately, Snapchat support hasn’t yet acknowledged this problem. But if and when they do, we will update this article to reflect the latest information.
