Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 08, 2022) follows:

Snapchat is the service that made ‘ephemeral messaging’ a trend a few years ago. The app became known for its particular system where messages disappear after the receiver reads them.

Snapchat is especially popular in key territories such as the United States, overtaking Facebook Messenger to second place in the ranking of top messaging apps in the North American country.

However, currently many Snapchat users are facing an issue where they get repeated failed login attempts (using the correct credentials), causing an account ‘temporarily disabled’ issue.

Snapchat ‘repeated failed login’ issue causing account ‘temporarily disabled’ error

According to multiple reports, sometimes the Snapchat login system mistakenly detects users’ credentials as incorrect. This prompts them to key in the details multiple times to access the app.

Sadly, this results in an account ‘temporarily disabled’ error message due to many failed attempts.

‘Due to repeated failed attempts or other unusual activity, your access to Snapchat is temporarily disabled.’

This is the second time round this has happened over nothing I just added people back. So they think I was spamming I guess. It’s been 4 days I still can’t get in . I’ve unlocked it on the website so many times and it says ‘your account was successfully unlocked’…

…but when I try to log in it says it’s temporarily disabled still. And when I make a new account and log out of the account I can’t log back in it will say the new account is temp disabled.

Snapchat access temporarily disabled

Snapchat won’t let me login into my account on my phone but on other phone I can without any problem on my phone it says „Due to multiple failed attempts or other unusual activities your access temporarily disabled on Snapchat.“ does anyone know what should I do?

Issue ‘locking’ login on devices, but there is a workaround

Interestingly, affected Snapchat accounts aren’t actually locked, but their devices get blacklisted. That is, they will only be able to access their account from another smartphone or PC.

It hasn’t said I’m permanently banned But it’s not letting me in any of my accounts it’s pissing me off. Oh but I can log into my account on my other phone. But that’s not a good device to use it’s shit. So Do I need to get a new phone ?
Source

This has caused concern for affected users that they will no longer be able to access their Snapchat accounts from their ‘locked’ devices.

The good news is that there is a workaround that reportedly helps fix the problem. Unfortunately, it is more suitable for Android devices since iOS will require access to appdb (something not everyone has experience with).

However, if you are an iOS user and want to try the workaround, the steps are as follows:

As you can see, the workaround is basically to install an older version of the Snapchat app. So, Android users just need to search for it in repositories like APK Mirror, download the APK and install it.

Before installing the previous app version on Android, it is recommended to first clear all current Snapchat app version data and cache, then uninstall it.

The Snapchat team does not seem to be aware of the issue yet since they are asking for more related feedback from affected users.

Hey, Let’s see how we can help. Send us some more details on what’s happening and we’ll take it from there.

Update 2 (August 10, 2022)

10:56 am (IST): Snapchat asked those affected to raise a ticket on their support page. And now, they say that the support team processes these requests in the order they’ve been received, so it may take some time.

If you have already submitted a ticket, please note that our team processes these requests as quickly as possible in the order they’re received. Thanks for your patience (Source)

Update 3 (August 12, 2022)

02:17 pm (IST): One of those affected has confirmed that this issue got resolved after changing the phone’s date to December 2022.

Hence, those still having login issues can try setting their phone’s date to sometime in the future as a potential workaround and see if it works.

PSA: Anyone who’s experiencing the “Snapchat has temporarily disabled your account”, and is unable to log in, do this: Go to date and time and make your date December 2022, then log back into your Snapchat. Once you’re in, change the date back to today and you’re good to go. (Source)

Update 4 (December 01, 2022)

11:33 am (IST): In response to a user, Snapchat support said that they try to process the request as quickly as possible.

Hey! Our team processes these requests as quickly as possible in the order they’re received. Thanks for your patience! (Source)

However, an individual has confirmed that they have sent multiple emails but didn’t get any response and the account remains disabled.

Update 5 (December 06, 2022)

02:35 pm (IST): Snapchat support is now asking those affected to send them DM for help regarding this issue.

Hi there! Can you please send us a DM so we can try to help? (Source)

Update 6 (December 12, 2022)

06:00 pm (IST): If you see an error message when attempting to log in to your Snapchat account, support has recommended that you submit a ticket.

Hey! If you see an error message when attempting to login, please reach out to us here https://help.snapchat.com/hc/requests/new then select ‘I can’t access my account’ > ‘I see an error message when I log in’. Select Yes to submit a support ticket

Update 7 (January 03, 2023)

06:42 pm (IST): Despite the fact that the ban is only temporary, some users (1,2) claim that it takes between 6 to 8 months to have their account restored.

Since it’s a device ban, users can create a new account on the new device. But they must avoid logging into it on the banned device because it will be promptly disabled.

Its a device ban, new accounts made on the phone will always be deleted within seconds. Make a new snapchat on your ipad and dont use it on your phone anymore. Because it will be deleted by snapchat again. Happent to me severql times before…

Update 8 (January 09, 2023)

11:07 am (IST): According to a Redditor, users should delete the app, re-install it after 48-hours and then try logging in. This way, they’ll be able to access their account. Hence, you can try this workaround and see if it helps.

Delete the app for 48hours and login back. You’ll be able to access it. (Source)

Update 9 (January 10, 2023)

12:50 pm (IST): If you’ve reported or come across a report about this issue on social media, there is a chance you’ll find some referring other Instagram/Twitter handles who can help you get your account back.

We suggest users do not entertain such comments (1,2,3) as these are some of the most common ways to phish victims and potentially scam them.

Update 10 (January 30, 2023)

1:00 pm (IST): While the accounts are supposed to be ‘temporarily disabled’, some users (1,2) are getting permanently locked out of them even after receiving the ‘Congratulations your account is unlocked’ email.

@snapchatsupport you sent me the link to follow the steps to unlock my account. I got through it all and it said congratulations your account is unlocked. Went to log in and it was still the same saying temporarily disabled

Update 11 (February 14, 2023)

02:19 pm (IST): While fresh reports (1, 2, 3) continue to pour in, Snapchat support is still asking those affected to share feedback on their support page instead of providing a fix.

Update 12 (February 27, 2023)

05:48 pm (IST): Support is now asking some users to DM them the screenshot of the prompt they see as well as further information about the issue (1,2). Nevertheless, they haven’t yet offered a fix for the issue.

Hi! Let’s see how we can help. Send us a DM with some details on what’s happening and we’ll take it from there. Also, could you send us a screenshot of the prompt you see when attempting to login?

Update 13 (March 7, 2023)

06:40 pm (IST): Some users complain that the newly created Snapchat accounts are being temporarily blocked.

Update 14 (March 13, 2023)

05:27 pm (IST): According to a user, their account has been disabled on a specific device for at least 2 months, and there is still no ETA for a fix.

Meanwhile, some users are not receiving a response to their open support tickets related to the issue.

Update 15 (March 15, 2023)

05:27 pm (IST): Some are also reporting that their accounts are getting permanently locked without any reason.

Update 16 (March 22, 2023)

05:37 pm (IST): While users continue to report this issue, Snapchat support is still not responding (1, 2, 3) to those affected, even though they’ve complained multiple times.

Update 17 (March 31, 2023)

04:55 pm (IST): In the last couple of hours more reports related to temporarily disabled accounts on a particular device have emerged (1, 2).

Also, users are unable to submit a support ticket due to an error message (‘We had trouble submitting your request. Please try again’).

Update 18 (April 11, 2023)

05:07 pm (IST): Recent reports (1,2,3,4) suggest that the problem has gotten worse in the last few hours as several users are now facing this issue.

Update 19 (April 17, 2023)

05:07 pm (IST): According to a recent report, it appears that even after a full hard reset one cannot unfortunately get rid of the ban or lock put up by Snapchat.

This is problematic for those who have purchased second-hand smartphones as it might be a possibility that the phone got blacklisted by the company.

Apparently, Snapchat has a ‘blacklist’ of MAC addresses that prevents any flagged device from logging in, either momentarily or permanently.
