With their portability and environmental friendliness, electric scooters have several advantages over conventional modes of transportation.

For the same reasons, the Segway Ninebot Max G2 scooter has also gained popularity as a reliable electric scooter. However, recent reports have surfaced regarding a self-accelerating bug encountered by users.

Segway Ninebot Max G2 scooter self-accelerating bug

According to some Segway Ninebot Max G2 owners, they are experiencing a self-accelerating glitch where the scooter unexpectedly accelerates without user input, posing a safety risk (1,2,3).

I have an E version G2 Max, i experienced the sudden acceleration issue only once on a gravel road. TCS is off, never have been on. It was scary but it stopped after 2 secs or so. 1.3.5 version firmware

Phantom acceleration and phantom braking. Also having a issue started today where regen brakes doesn’t engage. Also my brother said his scooter just turned off while riding the scooter.

This issue can be highly disconcerting for riders, as it compromises their control over the scooter. It seems that the bug is stemming from a v1.3.5 (1,2) software update error within the scooter’s control system.

Surprisingly, a new beta firmware version 1.3.8 was made available, but it still didn’t fix the acceleration issue.

Ninebot Max G2 error codes reported by some

In addition to the self-accelerating bug, users have also encountered error codes such as 10, 14, 15, 21, and 51 on their Segway Ninebot Max G2 scooters (1,2,3,4,5).

These error codes typically appear on the scooter’s display and indicate various malfunctions or system failures. For instance, Error 51 indicates an abnormal temperature rise in the control board.

This is not it. There are almost 15 other error codes that can appear anytime and disrupt the usual functioning of the Ninebot Max G2 scooters. You can check the list of such errors in this manual.

Self-accelerating bug allegedly known

Although it is crucial for Segway to admit the issue and look into its sources, one of those impacted has claimed that self-accelerating bug has in fact been acknowledged.

This “suddenly accelerating” behavior occurs apparently since firmware version 1.3.5. It’s a known issue with Segway and they are working on it.
What shocks me the most is that there is no official statement on this topic. If someone still has the firmware 1.3.1, it is safer to stay on this for now, this doesn’t seem to happen with this one.

The same person also advised to stay on the firmware v1.3.1, as the bug was introduced in the firmware version 1.3.5.

With this, we hope that the information provided above helps you recognize the bug and act accordingly.

In the meantime, we’ll keep monitoring the topic and update this story with the latest developments.
