Several Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 owners are reporting that the ‘Sleep tracking’ feature is not working properly.

The sleep tracking functionality is a great way to monitor your sleep patterns and enhance the quality of your sleep.

However, by looking at the reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) it appears that multiple Galaxy Watch 6 users are having difficulties keeping track of their sleep patterns properly.

They claim that the ‘Sleep tracking’ feature fails to accurately record periods when one goes back to sleep after waking up initially.

For example, if one wakes up at 7 a.m. but goes back to sleep until 9 a.m., the smartwatch only registers the initial wake-up at 7 a.m., resulting in an erroneous reading.

In addition to this, users cannot modify the sleep tracking data to correct the readings and get an accurate analysis.

People say that the Galaxy Watch 6 displays significantly reduced deep sleep figures compared to the numbers reported by their Fitbit Sense and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.

They contend that the sleep statistics from the other smartwatches are nearly similar. However, the new Watch 6’s data varies significantly, particularly in terms of shorter periods for deep sleep.

My Watch 6 Classic sleep tracking isn’t working at all. The Samsung Health app says “Were you asleep?” and displays part of the time I was sleeping. That watch looks like it’s not even recording my sleep.

A few are disheartened to observe Samsung’s deteriorating performance in sleep and health monitoring with each new release of their watches.

Some even claim to have gotten so frustrated that they returned their new watch just three days after purchase.

Due to even worse sleep tracking than in the watch 5, the continuation of a bug that I reported on the watch 5, and terrible haptics, I returned the watch after 3 days. Please stop making the watch “prettier” and fix some of the algorithms and functional bugs.

However, a few individuals (1,2) allege that the problem got worse across multiple Galaxy Watches after the One UI 5 beta update.

Users are now requesting others not to rush to upgrade to the latest smartwatch. And this is because it allegedly has worse tracking than the older Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 watches.

Potential workarounds

Luckily, we have come across some workarounds that might help solve your problem. Firstly, it is recommended that you enable the ‘Share data with devices and services‘ option from your smartwatch’s settings.

Additionally, you can try turning off the ‘awake with rotating bezel‘ option. Also, make sure that you have provided ‘Samsung health’ with all the permissions necessary for sensitive body information tracking.

Update 1 (September 7, 2023)

06:49 pm (IST): As per reports (1, 2, 3), Galaxy Watch 6 users continue to face sleep tracking issues even after a month of launch. And there’s no fix in sight.
