Samsung smart TVs from 2019 have been experiencing intermittent sound loss when moving between HDMI sources.

This causes audio sources to move from external to internal TV speakers, necessitating a deliberate swap each time it happens. The problem began after a software upgrade last year and continues to this day.

Samsung 2019 TV intermittent sound loss after 1401 update

The issue has been reported (1,2,3,4,5) in multiple forums, with provided details implying that different models are indeed affected.

Hi, I have an intermittent issue with sound loss when switching to other hdmi sources connected to the one connect box.
HDMI 1 – Sky Q box
HDMI 2 – Amazon Fire TV Box
HDMI 3 – Samsung Sound-bar
HDMI 4 – PS5
When I switch over to the fire tv box or PS5 I sometimes get no sound and the only way to get sound back is to disconnect the one connect cable for a second.

Since my QE82Q70RAT received 1401 update a few days ago my Samsung HT-BD 1255 no longer works with the TV, I select receiver in sound settings but it switches back to TV speakers as i come out.

Is this a bug? Has worked fine until this update, very disappointed that firmware gets released without fully testing.

Official acknowledgement

Fortunately, it was identified, and Samsung verified that a patch will be available later this year.

The company has not provided an exact timeline for the release, but they have provided instructions for users to obtain the patched firmware.

Those who can’t wait can still download and install the modified software from here or here. It brings build number 1409, but it’s still in beta at the moment so we don’t recommend installing it.

At least one of those affected claims the new firmware fixed the sound issue on their TV. However, not everyone shares the same opinion even after installing the latest 1409 beta build.

Same, 1409 doesn’t fix things on my QE55Q90R. Still lose audio and need to reset via holding power button and I have to turn off “Input signal plus” on all inputs, which means getting degraded quality!

Samsung’s acknowledgment of the issue is reassuring to know that the company is working on a fix.

However, it is also frustrating for users who are still experiencing the issue, as they have to wait for an unknown period for the fix to be released.

The option to obtain the patched firmware is a good alternative, but you must proceed with caution as the firmware is still an interim update. Further claims that it hasn’t fixed the issue also do not help much.

That said, we hope Samsung releases the anticipated patch as soon as possible so that the sound issue with some 2019 TV units can be fixed.

Until then, keep tabs on this story as we will update it with further developments, if any.
