Developed by Psyonix, Rocket League is a successful multiplayer game that combines soccer and vehicles in a fast-paced team sport.

As of today, Rocket League is available as a free-to-play game on many consoles and platforms, including mobile devices (Android and iOS), and even Linux.

Also, Rocket League does not require high-level hardware resources. Therefore, it is a fairly accessible game, which has helped fuel its popularity.

That said, lately many Rocket League players have been facing an annoying sound issue where a fan in the crowd is suddenly screaming or shouting, causing a lot of confusion (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

However, everything has an explanation, and there is a workaround that will help you solve the problem.

Rocket League ‘Crowd Sound’ bug where fan is screaming or shouting

The issue in question started to occur since yesterday (April 1). According to multiple reports, an ‘extremely excited fan’ suddenly starts screaming at some point during Rocket League matches.

Did they add an extremely excited fan, screaming throughout the match, or am I nuts?

So I tried out that limited 3 wheel mode, n as im playing I hear some guy losing his mind over the plays. Lol. Is that a new feature for maps that don’t have a crowd or is it someone on mic? Playing on switch, if that’s anything.

Psyonix please can we keep the crowd option?

It’s legit making me feel better while playing, you can’t be angry at your teammate if you hear a dude screaming his soul out while they’re hard whiffing a save. Please let me keep this.

The explanation: an April Fool’s joke

Apparently, everything is due to an April Fool’s joke on the part of the developers. However, judging by the players’ reactions, the prank got out of hand.

It’s an April Fool’s joke, as I just found out in another thread that I created that was instantly spammed with people responding with abuse. As if I needed an excuse to bin off this increasingly shit game full of children.

Official acknowledgment, a potential workaround

The Rocket League developers are already aware of the issue and are working on resolving it. However, there is no estimated arrival date for a fix yet.

We are aware of a bug in Rocket League that dramatically affects crowd audio. We are working on resolving this issue.

Meanwhile, as a workaround, you can turn off “crowd” in Rocket League audio settings.

Turn off “crowd” in audio settings to get rid of screaming. It worked for me.
