Redmi Note 8 Pro is designed to take the market of mid-range smartphones by storm, just like its predecessors. The phone breaks from tradition a little bit, being powered by a MediaTek chip instead of a Snapdragon one from Qualcomm. Nonetheless, this Helio G90T SoC is quite a good performer.

It is no secret why this device is so popular in various regional markets, including India and many other Asian countries. Buyers in these regions are price-conscious so any device that delivers the most value for money is bound to be a winner.

However, Redmi Note 8 Pro users on Jio are not a happy lot. Many have been experiencing an annoying bug and a little trip on social media will give you an idea.

According to the user reports, Redmi Note 8 Pro units with Jio SIM are having issues receiving SMS. Yes, one of the fundamental pillars of cellular communication is allegedly broken.

The issue seems to be quite widespread among the Redmi Note 8 Pro community. Most importantly, the recent MIUI 11 update did not address this particular issue.

While both Jio and Xiaomi have received the complaints from various users – especially on Twitter – neither has come out to acknowledge the issue or give out a comprehensive fix.

Botched up carrier config or wrong implementation in the network layer – it remains unclear what exactly is causing this issue. People having Redmi Note 8 Pro are also experiencing roadblocks in HD streaming and device bricking, although the former should be solved soon.

We shall stay on top of this matter and update users of a fix when it is made available by either Jio, Xiaomi or the vibrant developer community that surrounds Xiaomi devices.

Update (January 7, 2020)

According to users, this issue has since been fixed by update V11.0.4.0.PGGINXM. The update weighs in at around 337 MB and the changelog explicitly states that the update aims to fix this issue.
