Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, also known outside India as Redmi Note 5 AI, will go down in history as the first in the Redmi Note series to bag two major Android OS updates.

The device came pre-installed with Android Nougat and currently sits on Android 9 Pie, the second and last major OS update. Still, Xiaomi hasn’t stopped pushing newer MIUI updates to the handset.

The latest arrived not long ago as MIUI 12.0.2.0.PEIMIXM, tagging along support for swipe-down gestures from the upper left corner to open notification shade and from the upper right corner to open Control center.

The same update also fixed an issue where the notification shade wasn’t displayed correctly when using the Redmi Note 5 Pro in Dark mode. But as it turns out, all is not rosy in the Note 5 camp.

With about a month gone since the MIUI 12 update started rolling out, some Redmi Note 5 Pro users happen to be still stuck on MIUI 11. This is despite some going further to attempt the manual installation.

Apparently, the OTA update to MIUI 12 is no longer available for Redmi Note 5 Pro users. Furthermore, it is no longer possible to install the firmware manually, something that was possible several days ago.

Not knowing what next, affected users have been looking for answers from Xiaomi and indeed, there is one from the official thread that first announced the release of MIUI 12 for the Note 5 AI.

Apparently, the reason the update is no more is that Xiaomi has halted the rollout due to a bootloop issue. Not much is known about this issue and what possibly triggered it.

In fact, we couldn’t come across user reports to verify this matter, but who are we to question what is coming straight from the horse’s mouth?

Now that the update has been pulled, it remains to be seen when Xiaomi will release the patched-up version. The good thing is that a forum says a new firmware is in the works, hopefully with fixes for this issue.

That will be rolled again.

As usual, we will keep an eye on this development and update this post when the rollout resumes.

Unfortunately for the Redmi Note 5 Pro, this will be the final MIUI update, meaning the device misses out on the upcoming MIUI 12.5 release. You can check out eligible devices here.
