Original story (published on March 22, 2021) follows:

Xiaomi has always been known for bringing premium features to the budget segment but this time they’ve really taken things to the next level.

The Redmi Note 10 lineup brings AMOLED display technology for the first time ever to the critically acclaimed Redmi Note series.

Aside from deep blacks, punchy colors, and better sunlight legibility, AMOLED displays are much loved because of their support for always-on display.

For those living under a rock, the AOD technology presents useful information and notifications to the user without requiring their interaction with the device.

This has a negligible impact on battery life owing to AMOLED displays’ ability to turn certain pixels on the screen completely off when they’re meant to display the color black.

Is anyone knows about Redmi Note 10 Always On Display settings, its automatically turns Off after 10 sec, and its really annoying. Please if someone have any solution on this issue please share with me.

Hello I have a Redmi Note 10 global variant which have super amoled screen but one thing I noticed that being an amoled panel it must have always on display feature which should be worked all the time but for now it is working only for just 10 seconds and then after it turned off the screen.

Anyway, as clear from above, there have been plenty of complaints doing rounds about the missing always-on display on the Redmi Note 10 series even though they’re totally capable of supporting it.

The devices all come with the always-on display customization goodies that Xiaomi offers on their more premium devices but that is overshadowed by the fact that the display only stays on for a maximum of 10 seconds.

This is because of the “For 10 seconds after tapping” setting under always-on “Display items” that can’t be turned off.

Now it could be possible that Xiaomi is set to enable proper always-on display for the entire series with a future software update. After all, every model in the lineup got hefty 5000+ mAh batteries so power consumption concerns shouldn’t really be a thing.

But why wait for that long when there’s already a rather simple solution available? Just follow the following set of steps and you should be good to go:

Firstly, you need to head over to Settings > About phone and keep tapping on “MIUI version” till you get a toast notification saying that Developer options have been enabled.

Next, head over to Additional settings > Developer options and scroll to the bottom to the MIUI optimizations toggle. Just turn it off and you will see that your always-on display will stick instead of turning off automatically in 10 seconds.

Hopefully, this isn’t just an exploitable bug that will be ‘fixed’ with the upcoming software updates. That said, be sure to keep an eye on our dedicated MIUI 12.5 tracker since it’s the next major update in line for the series.

Update 1 (April 06)

10:23 am (IST): It appears that the option to turn off MIUI optimizations has been removed with the latest updates, at least from the developer options menu. However, it is still accessible when searched from the Settings search bar.

Update 2 (April 10)

11:34 am (IST): The rooted ones out there are free to try the MIUI AOD Patched v1.1 Magisk module that will enable true always-on-display in MIUI without the need for the bug-inducing MIUI optimization workaround.
