Redmi 7 Android 10 update confirmed, "development has not started" though; Redmi 6 Pro Android Q not on cards

As we wind up the first quarter of 2020, many eligible devices for Android 10, irrespective of the OEM or the skinned version of Android, have been updated. At least for the most part.

Of course, there are some outliers, mostly old flagships of budget devices that have not been updated. And not to forget the updates that kept getting rolled out, only for major bugs to be identified.

The Redmi 7 is a mid-range device from Xiaomi that was first unveiled back in March 2019. It features a 6.26″ IPS LCD display, Snapdragon 632 chipset, 4000 mAh battery, and up to 64 GB storage. Clearly not a powerhouse.

As such, the device is not exactly high up on Xiaomi’s priority list of devices to get updates. The device launched with Android 9 Pie and a year into the device’s life, it still stands at the same version of Android yet older devices like Poco F1 already run Android 10.

That said, there still is hope for Android 10 for the Redmi 7. It seems as though Xiaomi is considering updating the device to Android 10 after all.

When asked when the Redmi 7 is likely to get updated to Android 10, a Super Moderator on Xiaomi Forum had this to say;

Although its development has not started, it probably is, but it does not have priority when it comes to receiving it. Then throughout the year, it will be launched.

Redmi 7 users just have to practice patience and wait for their time to get updated. The fact that Xiaomi is still considering this device for updating is a breath of relief for many users who have been waiting for word from the company in this.

One group that isn’t as lucky is the owners of the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro. According to the company, the Redmi 6 Pro will not get updated to Android 10. Launched back in September 2018, the devices ran Android 8 and has since been updated to Android Pie and that is as far as it will go.

When asked when this device is likely to get an Android 10 build, the moderator said;

No, it will not receive your Android 10 device, Redmi Note usually updates the Android version only once.

Xiaomi’s move to update entry and mid-range devices to only one new version of Android is not sitting well with users. However, that seems to be the prevailing trend in the Android ecosystem at the moment.
