Oppo has just announced its next iteration of the ColorOS skin to version 7. Arriving as ColorOS 7, the new skin, as you may have guessed, is the one that will bring Android 10 to your Oppo and Realme phones alongside a bunch of other new features.

It had been rumored that Realme is working on an in-house RealmeOS skin that would replace ColorOS on Realme phones, but this claim was trashed by the company. Instead, Realme is working on a cleaner version of ColorOS 7 that will also have a few features unique to the Oppo subsidiary.

This version is already in development as I write this. We have our eyes on a bunch of photos shared to us by a tipster with a Realme XT running the latest Android 10. Instead of ColorOS 7, though, the XT still has ColorOS 6.7 running the show.

ColorOS 6.7 is obviously the beta version of the just-announced ColorOS 7. The skin is available on trial basis for the Oppo Reno and is expected to pick up the stable ColorOS 7 before the year ends alongside the Reno 10x Zoom and the Reno 2, but for Realme, the wait will go all the way to Q1 2020.

On the brighter side, the fact that a working Realme XT Android 10 build is already out there implies the rollout could happen sooner than expected. From the photos we have, there are things that are hard to miss, more so the tweaks to the Quick Settings panel and better dark mode integration.

Below is a gallery of screenshots of the Realme XT after the update to ColorOS 6.7 based on Android 10 beta.

Note that even though Oppo has launched ColorOS 7 today, Realme will get going with its own ColorOS 7 launch later this month.

It is then that we’ll get to know if and when to expect Realme devices to pick up public beta versions of Android 10 before the stable ColorOS 7 arrives in early 2020.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
