Remember Nextbit Robin? The Snapdragon 808 powered phone had a unique design that stole the hearts of the Android enthusiasts. The company also wanted to popularized the cloud-hybrid storage concept, but failed to crack the idea. Oh, and Robin was the ancestor of the Razer Phone lineup.

If you look closely, you can find plenty of similarities between the Robin and the first gen Razer Phone. In fact, Razer acquired Nextbit and modeled their first game-centric smartphone on top of the foundation of Robin. Well, they did add a stunning 120 Hz display panel as a major improvisation.

Although Nextbit Robin came with a slightly skinned version of Android, Razer opted for a different path with their phones. The close-to-stock approach seemed good for them, although they partnered with Nova Launcher team to deliver a more versatile home screen for their users.

The original Razer Phone was launched with Android Nougat, and received Android 8.1 Oreo update during April of 2018. The successor, i.e. Razer Phone 2, received Android Pie update in February of this year, while the carrier variant got the OTA back in July.

Razer tried to deliver the same level of sweetness to Razer Phone owners last month, when they started rolling out the long-anticipated Android Pie update. However, the build was quickly pulled back due to a show stopper bug in the Game booster module.

Changelog of the botched up Pie update for Razer Phone

The company took more than one month, but they are finally shipping a fixed version of the Android Pie software update. The changelog is pretty much identical, which is expected. Nevertheless, delivering July patch on the verge of October is kinda meh!

Changelog of the re-released update

Regarding the size of the incremental zip, it can vary depending on your currently installed software version. A moderator of r/RazerPhone community confirmed the following:

File size is 56mb if you had pie already or 1.2GB if you’re on Oreo. Changlog is the exact same but unofficially this build fixes the Game Booster issue.

Still waiting for confirmation for carrier rollout.

Really glad to see this update going out for you all 🙂 you’ve all been extremely patient and I thank you for hanging in there.

Any issues please let me know and I’ll assist as much as possible.
