Packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset allied to 8GB of RAM, the Razer Phone was easily the most powerful phone at the time of its debut a couple of years ago.
But like any other product, it was succeeded by the even more capable Razer Phone 2 that came out a little over a year ago. Fans of this gaming line of phones will know that the Razer Phone 3 is due, but there have been reports that there won’t be one.
With no signs of the third-generation Razer Phone, the company is now showing more love to owners of the OG model. The device recently picked up its long-awaited update to Android Pie, the second OS upgrade since arriving with Android Nougat preinstalled.
This wasn’t the first Pie update for the Razer Phone, though. The device first picked up the stable Pie update in mid-August, but it was quickly pulled after a Game Booster bug was discovered.
Although the patched version arrived around October, it still carried the security patch level from the initial update – July 2019. Perhaps the excitement of finally receiving Pie ensured some didn’t even notice or rather care much about this.
As of this writing, Razer is making amends by rolling out a newer security patch to November 2019. Sure, it’s not the latest security patch available, but perhaps the changes it brings is what makes it an important update for owners of the 2017 Razer Phone.

The OTA is arriving in as we speak weighing a sizeable 395.4MB, but besides fixing the issues mentioned in the changelog above, Razer Phone owners will reportedly no longer experience the annoying camera DND bug after installing this update.
Something several Razer Phone owners do agree with.
For those hesitating: I saw the update available when I woke up and promptly downloaded and installed. The camera DND bug appears to be fixed and ambient display works so far.
