2023 marked a significant year for Google Pixel, with the brand celebrating its seventh year and launching a flurry of devices that refined its offerings and ventured into new territory. The Pixel line has long been lauded for its innovative camera technology and software smarts, and 2023 was no different. But with so many great features to choose from, which one did you rely on the most?

Before that, here’s a quick look at some of the most notable Pixel moments in 2023.

Most notable Pixel moments of the year

The year kicked off with the Pixel 7a at the Google I/O, sporting the upgraded Tensor G2 chip for improved performance and efficiency. Unlike the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, the 7a maintained a more reserved and budget-friendly approach just like it’s predecessor. Google also ventured into new territory with the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold, although the latter’s price tag and limited global availability are a huge stumbling block.

Google also launched the Pixel Watch 2, but the biggest of them all was the arrival of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in October. These two have been great to use, and I expect them to get even better with the promised 7 years of support and the power of AI. And then there was the December 2023 Feature Drop, which included features like Repair Mode, Device as a Webcam, Video Boost, and the Gemini Nano model for AI-powered improvements in Google Recorder and Smart Reply. But it’s unlikely that any of these new additions is a contender for this award.

The most used Pixel feature in 2023

To capture the essence of Pixel users’ experiences, we’re conducting a poll to unravel the most-used Pixel feature in 2023. I have some great contenders in mind, among them Magic Eraser, Call Screen, Live Translate, and Night Sight. But you have the comments section to share your thoughts as well.

Magic Eraser uses Google’s advanced AI to magically remove unwanted objects from photos, while Call Screen uses Google Assistant to screen calls for you, transcribing the conversation in real-time and letting you decide whether to answer, decline, or send a quick message. Live Translate is another great tool, although it’s limited to recent Pixel devices. This feature can translate text in real-time, using your camera or by taking a screenshot. It’s a great tool for travelers and anyone who needs to communicate with people who speak different languages.

Night Sight, on the other hand, is a marvel for those who love after-dark hours. It takes stunning photos in low-light conditions, making it a popular choice for nighttime photography. Other honorable mentions include Google Assistant, Astrophotography, Google Lens, Direct My Call, and the Recorder app.

So, which of these Pixel features did you use the most in 2023?

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
