A Reddit user ‘xper0072’ said the following:

Niantic doesn’t have a leg to stand on for how this has been executed.

We don’t know whether it was planned or not, but with Niantic’s history, I think they don’t have a leg to stand on for how this has been executed. If it was planned, why not send the tweet out as soon as Rocket stops are no longer available so that people don’t waste time and gas. You can build this narrative without being so sloppy.

It is still not clear what is the reason behind the sudden removal of the Team Go Rocket from the game, but for now, it seems like Professor Willow will give tasks to players to investigate this through some Special Research.

Well, players have to wait for the time being until Niantic provides with the next piece of information regarding the Team Go Rocket event.
