Poco, being a sub-brand of Xiaomi, is slowly yet steadily emerging as an independent brand. However, some new development appears to be taking place regarding Poco devices bootloader unlock.
Android, which is an open source platform, has opened endless avenues for modders and developers.
Android powered devices can be unlocked for various reasons and unlocking the bootloader of the likes of Pocophone F1 (aka Poco F1 in India) has not been charged for so far.
However, recent reports suggest that Poco is going to charge users if they want to unlock the bootloader of their devices.
This information comes from Twitter and Telegram where a Poco user has shared a conversation with a Poco Support executive.
The executive has clearly stated that users will have to take their Poco devices to a service center along with an invoice copy.
Also, users will be charged for having their devices’ bootloader unlocked as the said process has been changed.
While the Telegram post has been removed from the Xiaomi & MIUI News channel, the Tweet is still live and Poco India Support Twitter handle has responded to it as well.
The response from the Poco India Support Twitter handle further adds to the confusion as they have stated that there is no need to visit the service center for unlocking the bootloader.
They have further stated that the info about paid bootloader unlocking from the support executive is due to miscommunication.
It is unclear why the support executive stated that the said process will be charged for as unlocking the bootloader for Poco devices has been free.
It might also be due to the fact that Poco is making some internal changing which means that there might be a break in the communication channel/chain.
Nevertheless, this is still based on our speculation as Poco India Support has officially denied the fact that bootloader unlocking is chargeable.
That said, we will keep tracking this for further development and will provide more details once new information becomes available.
