Plex is one of the most famous client-server media players that enables users to stream multimedia content from one machine to another.

Over the years, the app added several features and now allows users to watch more than 200 channels for free. The Plex Media Server is the backend and supports multiple platforms including NAS devices.

Plex users are no strangers when it comes to bugs and glitches. In December last year, users reported that the Plex Media Server was crashing on QNAP NAS.

That being said, Plex Media Server users are now reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that they are getting an ‘Aw, Snap! Something went wrong while displaying this web page error code STATUS_BREAKPOINT’ error message when they try to play a video file on Chrome.

It looks like the issue surfaced after the latest Google Chrome 98 update. But soon after, peoplesaid that they were getting the error message on Edge and Safari as well.

I recently installed the latest Chrome version (98) and now I’m running into issues with music playback and Chrome crashing… It will play some songs all the way through but crash with others (all of the songs I’ve been testing with are mp3 320kbps stereo). When chrome crashes it throws the “Aw Snap” page up and shows a little “error code: 5” message. I can reload the page and it will come back up with the song paused where it crashed but the moment I try to play again, the tab breaks. Rinse and repeat.

Has anyone seen this error? “Error code: STATUS_BREAKPOINT” It started this morning. It occurs on either of my PC’s when I try to play a video on PLEX. My Plex server has been working fine, software is up to date. Version 1.25.4.5487 It plays just fine using Firefox, this error only appears in Edge or Chrome. It was working fine until this morning. I use these two pc’s to watch stuff on Plex almost daily. These are Windows 11 PC’s, up to date, Plex is running on a Synology DS1019+. I’m including a screenshot of the error.

Unfortunately, the developers are yet to acknowledge the issue where Plex Media Server is crashing for many.

Rest assured, we will be keeping an eye out on the matter and update this space when Plex developers release a fix for the issue. Until then, those affected can revert to Chrome v97 or switch to Chrome Beta.
