New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on Feb. 15, 2022) follows:

Plex is a popular tool that allows users to configure a wireless multimedia center at home capable of streaming content between different devices.

Plex uses a client-server system, is compatible with almost all types of multimedia files (videos, audio and photos) and is available on many platforms.

However, some users of the service have been facing issues with their library after a recent update (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).

There is a library updating glitch that causes the service to get stuck while scanning content on the latest version of Plex server for platforms like Windows and Linux.

Plex library updating gets stuck during scan

The problem on the Plex server may suddenly appear at some point during the file scan for the user library update. Basically, once the library scan process starts, Plex server gets stuck in an infinite loading loop.

Plex stuck forver scanning files

For about the last week my Plex server has been getting stuck scanning my libraries – in this case TV programs, or movies. Sometimes I can cancel the scan. Other times I have to reboot the server. I am on version v1.25.5.5492-12f6b8c83 (Linux). (It’s a docker image via UnRaid).

Just wondering if it’s just me or somehing weird is happening? Cheers

When the server scanning the library, the activity logo will show loading (look like a running circle) . But this loading never stop even a few hours(i think it is crash), i add some video in this library also not detect. It won’t happen before. This issue can suddenly or few hours happen again. When this issue happen,I must open the nas package center to manual stop the plex and restart, then the server will be normal.

Some users report that the Plex library scan temporarily works again after doing a server restart. However, the issue will reappear later.

Since a couple of days, I have problems wth updating libraries. After a fresh server restart, automatic library updating (scanning for new or deleted media in my libraries) works. But rather sooner than later, that behaviour stops and it seems that the library scan HANGS… I cannot scan for new media any longer.

No official acknowledgment, but there is a workaround

There is a workaround that reportedly helps to solve the problem. Apparently the issue is directly related to the latest version of the Plex server.

So, the workaround is to downgrade Plex to the previous version where everything worked fine (v1.25.3.5409).

At the moment there doesn’t seem to be an official acknowledgment from the Plex team about the glitch. Affected users will have to wait for official updates on a possible fix.

We will update this story as events develop or when a fix becomes available.

Update 1 (Apr. 13, 2023)

05:23 pm (IST): It seems that the issue where the library is not updating still persists with the latest update.

After latest update, library is not updating with new content. Can I refresh the entire library/DB?
