It’s a sad day for Android tinkerers and fans of the popular Pixel Experience custom ROM. The project’s founder, with a touch of heartfelt emotion, has today, April 10, announced that the development journey is drawing to a close.

Pixel Experience stepped onto the scene back in 2017, offering a fresh way to experience Android without the-then hassles of getting your hands on a Google Pixel phone in most markets outside the US. It quickly became a favorite for those wanting to experience the Pixel interface regardless of the device, resulting in a loyal and passionate community over the years.

While no specific reasons were given for the end of development, there’s a sense that keeping up with the ever-evolving Android landscape might have simply become too difficult for a smaller project. Thankfully, the Pixel Experience website will live on, so fans can still grab older versions of the custom ROM for their favorite devices.

The announcement ended with a genuine outpouring of gratitude. The founder emphasized that the testers, contributors, and loyal users were the soul of Pixel Experience, the ones who made it all worthwhile. I’ve been part of this community for quite some time and until as recent as March 2024, so it’s indeed sad to see the project come to an end.

It truly is the end of an era for a custom ROM that held a special place in the hearts of many Android enthusiasts.
