Google Pixel owners allege that their devices are getting bricked or dying after installing the latest Android 14 beta 4.1 update.

Google recently released the Android 14 beta 4.1 minor update that claims to bring various bug fixes and improvements.

For instance, the patch addresses issues with app launching, connectivity,the user interface, Wi-Fi calling, and much more. However, it appears that the latest update is more buggy than the previous one.

Google Pixel bricked or dead after Android 14 beta update

Multiple Pixel users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) claim that their phones fail to start after installing the Android 14 beta 4.1 update.

As per the allegations, the devices don’t power up even after holding the power button for a few seconds or pressing the volume up and power keys.

On the other hand, a few claim that only a flashing Google logo appears on their phones whenever they try to turn them on.

And to rub salt in the wounds, some are unable to get their phones restored to a working state even after visiting several service centers.

One of those affected asserts that their phone was stuck in the installation process for about 6 hours. And they allegedly had to hold the power and volume up buttons for 30 seconds to reboot their phone.

They also claim to have gotten another update after the completion of the installation. However, they did not proceed with the installation.

I have a Google Pixel 6 that will not turn on at all. It was installing the newest update and rebooted and now it’s dead. It will eventually show the Google logo and it will flash on and off.

So, every time I restart my phone, I get the android boot scree. It is all black and has the red caution sign with boot options. That one. I thought it was just a new part of Android beta, but I’m starting to think not.

Another says that their smartphone failed to turn on after installing a Google Play System update.

Users argue that an update shouldn’t break things to the point where one’s phone can’t be reflashed with adb, fastboot, or a factory image.

A few Pixel owners claim to be experiencing similar problems ever since the release of Android 14 beta update 1.

It’s also worth mentioning that the issue has already been passed on to the concerned team. But sadly, there are no updates about the fix yet.

Potential workarounds

Luckily, we have come across a list of workarounds that can help solve your problem. First of all, we advise that you try holding the power, volume up and down buttons together for 30 seconds.

After this, press the power and volume down buttons to open the bootloader, and choose the start option.

If this doesn’t work for you, try holding the buttons while the device is plugged into the charger. Alternatively, you can try holding the power button for 20 seconds. After this, release it and hold it for another 5 seconds.

And as a last resort, try turning on the device after a few hours.
