Google’s struggle with the persistent green screen issue on certain Pixel phones continues, particularly affecting those using the Pixel 8. First emerging after the Android 14 update in October 2023, the issue causes an unsettling green tint to appear on the display. While Google initially addressed the problem for the Pixel 7 Pro in November 2023, users with other Pixel models remained frustrated.

The March 2024 update promised a wider fix, extending to models like the Pixel 7, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro. However, the continued reports into April after the latest patch suggests the issue is far from resolved for Pixel 8 owners.

What’s especially troubling is the bizarre workaround gaining traction within user communities. Several Pixel 8 owners report that by squeezing the bottom half of their phones, the green screen issue temporarily disappears.

This is exactly what my Pixel 8 is doing. If I squeeze the bottom it gets better.

Weird mine is green too and I squeezed the bottom half off my phone and it helped ! Why is this a thing.?.

Also been having the same issue these past 2 days. Screen glitches and flickers green on the lockscreen and then turns into a grainy green screen. I squeezed the bottom the second time it happened to me and it fixed it, probably temporaily. Really want to know why this is happening.

This unconventional fix strongly points to a potential hardware problem within the Pixel 8 rather than a software bug. If it were purely software-related, Google’s updates should have been effective. However, no amount of software tweaking can remedy a hardware malfunction. It’s possible that only a small batch of devices is affected, which explains the dotted reports on the issue.

While there’s been no official word from Google, this workaround hints at a potentially more significant issue with the Pixel 8. But hopefully it’s nothing that Google can’t handle, as a simple software update may not be enough to address the problem this time around.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
