Google’s Pixel phones have long held a reputation for camera excellence, but a new challenger has emerged. The Oppo Find X7 Ultra has matched the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ to share the top spot in the DXOMark rankings and narrowly surpasses the Pixel 8 Pro. Let’s break down where the Oppo gains its edge and how the two camera titans compare. Here’s a quick comparison of the key camera specifications:

Before diving in, it’s worth pointing out that the Oppo Find X7 Ultra camera test was only done along with other “ultra-premium” smartphones, not the Pixel 8 Pro. That said, upon analysing the individual scores of the Pixel 8 Pro and comparing it to that of the Find X7 Ultra, we can see a clearer picture.

A key advantage for the Oppo Find X7 Ultra comes in its portrait mode; utilizing a 3x telephoto camera yields more natural-looking portraits with excellent subject isolation and superb detail preservation. The Google Pixel 8 Pro, while still very capable, can at times struggle slightly with the finer details of subject separation in portrait shots.

When it comes to zoom capabilities, the Oppo again takes the lead with its dual telephoto cameras. This results in crisper images at medium and long-range zoom levels compared to the Pixel 8 Pro. In the realm of color and exposure, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra consistently delivers natural colors, accurate skin tones, and a wider dynamic range. Matter of fact, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra takes the top spot in all user cases and situations too. According to DxOMark, it out does the Pixel 8 Pro in low-light, indoor, and photos of people groups too. The only area where the two tie is in outdoor shots.

The 8 Pro leaps ahead of the X7 Ultra in ultra-wide shots. The device bags a massive 119 points in ultra-wide shots compared to 109 on the Oppo Find X7 Ultra.

The Pixel 8 Pro had the highest score for video stabilization in the Android world, however, DxOMark has now given the Oppo Find X7 Ultra an higher score in the field. The Pixel 8 Pro has 115 points while the X7 Ultra has 117 points, putting it just a single point behind the best – the iPhone 15 Pro.

That said, both the devices offer phenomenal camera experiences. The Oppo edges ahead with its versatility across zoom ranges, more natural image rendering, and exceptional portrait mode. The Pixel 8 Pro remains a top contender, especially for low-light enthusiasts and those who value Google’s exclusive software tricks. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your individual shooting priorities.
