In general, many Android phone makers have up-d their game when it comes to pushing out updates. Current Android devices are now getting more updates for longer than ever before. Granted, these updates might only be monthly security patches and bug fixes, but even those go a long way to improve the Android experience.

OPPO and Realme have been doing a stellar job at this. But that is not always the case. Take the Oppo A7 for instance.

This device was first unveiled way back in November 2018. The device packed quite decent specs at the time. We’re talking about a huge 4230mAh battery, a rather low-end but still capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core just to mention a few.

The device came with Android 8 Oreo out of the box with ColorOS 5.2. While other Oppo devices from the same era were getting updated to Android 9 Pie-based ColorOS 6, this device wasn’t as lucky.

Fast forward to a little over a year and a half into the device’s life and it still runs on the same version of Android that it launched with. That is such a sorry state of affairs in this day and age.

After a lot of silence, Oppo has come out to shed a little light on the fate of the Oppo A7. According to Oppo, through its customer care social media handles, the Oppo A7 will get updated to ColorOS 6 soon.

That is such a breath of fresh air for users of this device who have been waiting for an update to Android 9 Pie for over a year. But that is not all.

The company, through yet another social media response to a user, says that the Oppo A7 will indeed get ColorOS 7 soon. This might seem contradictory as the device hasn’t even been updated to Android 9 Pie.

It remains unclear whether the ColorOS 7 tweet was a mistake or indeed the company is working on two different updates for the Oppo A7 back-to-back. Either way, Oppo A7 users should expect an update to their devices sometime soon.
