Opera GX adblock not working on YouTube? Try uBlock Origin

The global web innovator launched a dedicated web browser for gamers back in 2019. The browser turned out to be a hit among gamers and enjoys good numbers in terms of active users.

Even though Opera GX stacks up well against its competitors, the always finds itself surrounded by privacy concerns for being an entity controlled by Chinese investors.

Besides the big list of features and tweaks that Opera GX allows you to have, the browser has an in-built Adblock as well.

Things were working fine until the Opera GX ad blocker stopped working on YouTube. It appears to have impacted a big chunk who are now heading to social media channels to raise a complaint.

Going by the reports, it is evident that the inability of the ad blocker is common for many. And this happens even after making sure that no app is exempted by the Adblock.

If this is the case with you but you’d still like to stick with the default adblocker of Opera GX, you can try these steps to see if it works.

Try to manually update the rules:

1) Go to opera://settings/adBlockerLists

2) Click on the button “Update lists”

3) Restart the browser

But there’s a better to fix this issue and that is by opting for a third-party adblocker that may work better to restrict ads on YouTube.

As suggested by some folks who faced a similar issue, uBlock Origin does the job for them.

The extension is easily available and can be installed without a hassle from here. The best option available for Opera GX users till a fix from the company arrives.

We haven’t found anything from the company officials but an issue that extends to a user base this big doesn’t go unnoticed for long and we hope Opera fixes it at the earliest.
