Android 11 has been thought of as a more refined version of previous versions of the open-source operating system. But that’s not to mean that it is boring.

We saw a few features come to Android with the debut of Android 11, one of them being the chat bubbles for messaging apps. These borrow inspiration from Facebook Messenger’s chat-head bubbles and brings it to more apps.

Unfortunately, and as is often the case with new features, there are bound to be issues at the beginning of the adoption cycle.

We already looked at an issue where some users of Pixel devices running Android 11 were unable to take advantage of the chat bubbles feature on the Google Messages app. More on that here.

As it turns out, these issues aren’t exclusive to Google Messages, or even Pixel devices for that matter. A section of OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8T users are noting issues with these bubbles.

Seeing as these are the only OnePlus devices that currently run Android 11-based OxygenOS 11, does this mean that this feature is broken on Android 11?

Even more users (1,2,3,4) are now reporting issues with Facebook Messenger bubbles on their OnePlus devices.

I’m not able to use my facebook messenger bubbles. If i have more than one conversation, i’m not able to switch between chants, it is super frustrating.

Affected users note that the issue tends to manifest when using multiple Facebook Messenger bubbles on their OnePlus devices and that causes the window to go completely transparent.

If I’m messaged by more than one person the bubbles just completely break, I usually can’t open more than one after they break or the wrong one is displayed or turns 100% transparent.

Some other users note instances where every time they have more then one bubble in chat, the system starts flashing the screen and the bubbles itself opens and closes.

Messenger bubbles don’t work correctly. 1 contact shows correctly, but after 2nd or 3rd contact chat me, it has buggs. When I click on their photobubble, it don’t show our chat, but window is just invisible. It’s working only for the first contact that I chatted with. But when other appears, first don’t work good too, sometimes it’s messing with other bubbles and I have to shut bubbles down and open messenger app to reply. It’s really annoying.

That said, this doesn’t seem to be a OnePlus exclusive issue as many other users with devices on Android 11 are facing the same issue. We’ve since seen Samsung (1,2) and Pixel (1,2) device owners report of this issue.

Interestingly, a OnePlus staff member has confirmed and acknowledged this issue, saying that the developers are already working on it. This, despite this affecting other OEMs.

We’ve made a note of it and our DEV team is currently working on this. We’ll keep you posted regarding any further updates.

Thanks & Regards,
Suhas.
