Android is an Open-Source platform upon which OEMs build their custom skins in a bid to offer users a more wholesome experience that stands out from the competition.

These customizations can be in form of new features, new visual artifacts, new themes, sounds, and so on. Some OEMs usually go one step further by developing and bundling new custom fonts to these skins.

We’ve seen Samsung do this with Samsung Sans for years now and recently, with the new, more refined SamsungOne. Google has its own Product Sans that it bundles with its Pixel devices along with Android’s stock Roboto font.

OnePlus, perhaps one of the most enthusiast-focused brands out here today, also has its own custom font that it bundles with its custom Android skin, OxygenOS, dubbed OnePlus Slate.

OnePlus Slate grew to be a favorite for many OnePlus users but with the update to Android 11-based OxygenOS 11, OnePlus ditched OnePlus Slate for its new custom font, OnePlus Sans.

Understandably, this didn’t sit well with users that were fond of the OnePlus Slate font which led to a section of them requesting OnePlus to return OnePlus Slate to OxygenOS.

Since then, users who have been updating their OnePlus devices to Android 11 and realizing that they can no longer set OnePlus Slate as their font have been pestering OnePlus to oblige.

Well, it looks like all their pestering could be yielding fruits as new reports now suggest that OnePlus could be bringing back OnePlus Slate to devices running OxygenOS 11.

In a shared screenshot of a purported exchange between a OnePlus user and customer support, the OnePlus rep is noted saying that OnePlus plans to bring back this font.

This move will, no doubt, excite all OnePlus users that were able to make their devices truly their own by customizing their devices with the OnePlus Slate font.

At the time of writing, it remains unclear when exactly OnePlus plans to add this font to OxygenOS 11 so users might want to be on the lookout for upcoming updates to their devices.
