OnePlus has a new product in the market – the OnePlus 8T. No doubt one of the best there is for its price, something we’ve come to expect from the company over the years.

The 8T has Android 11 pre-installed. The (un)popular OxygenOS 11 skin is layered on top of AOSP, tagging along a much changed UI, much to the dismay of some seasoned fans.

Despite the changes, OnePlus devices still remain popular among enthusiasts. As usual, though, they also have a share of their own issues, as reported by some users of various OnePlus phones, including the 8T.

Looking at the above OnePlus forum reports and many others on Reddit and Twitter, it is evident that many OnePlus users are experiencing a strange bug.

Apparently, the OnePlus Gallery app is displaying a pop-up message directing users to download an expansion file.

As per the message displayed (see screenshot below), downloading the said file should bring along new features and services.

It is not exactly clear what kind of features and services are in question here. But what is even more annoying is that the 44MB file fails to download, something that is leaving many frustrated and even more confused.

Interestingly, though, a certain Redditor does claim they did manage to download and install the said OnePlus Gallery expansion file, but there is no mention of what features are included.

It’s not fishy, there are extra features in the app that needs a downloaded file. They did it through the app itself instead of the app store. I was able to download it.

It remains unclear what this expansion file is all about and what it brings to OnePlus Gallery app. For now, many OnePlus users see it as a bug, especially since it won’t download and install successfully.

Since it looks like a new issue across OxygenOS 10 and OxygenOS 11 devices, it may take some time before OnePlus comes out with an official response and fix, so we wait.

While waiting, be sure to keep an eye on our OnePlus Android 11 update tracker to know when your device bags the new OS. We also have a tracker for all OxygenOS 11 bugs and issues here.
