OnePlus Gallery app compatibility issue to be fixed by the end of the month, says support

OnePlus appears to be having a tough time rolling out Android 11 to eligible devices, at least when compared to other OEMs such as Samsung or even Sony for that matter.

The latter of which has already released the Android 11 update to the five eligible devices from its portfolio. Not much, but applaudable nevertheless.

And speaking of bugs and issues, it seems the OnePlus Gallery app has a few of them.

Earlier, we covered the loading issues, “Download expansion file” pop-up issue, and a couple of other problems that the company addressed.

And joining the list of problems with the OnePlus Gallery app is a compatibility bug that is preventing users from downloading the Gallery app on their devices via the Google Play Store.

Here are some user reports for reference including a screenshot of the issue:

Hi, i deleted/disabled files, gallery and dialer app from my device to use Google phone app and photos app by default. Now when i tried using them again and checked for updates and installation in playstore.. it shows that these apps are not compatible with my device. (Source)

Yesterday I try to uninstall the updates in order to do them again with the new firmware 11.0.3 of OnePlus 8Pro, but after that the app gallery is not compatible anymore with my phone as you see in the screenshots. (Source)

Me and my friend use One Plus 8 units and have been facing issue with the Gallery which shows as no longer supported in our devices. Pics and videos from other apps are not updated properly and we have to keep restarting the phone to view them. (Source)

According to users, the issue popped up after they disabled the OnePlus Gallery application on their devices and then enabled it and tried to install the fresh updates.

Typically, disabling a system app removes the latest updates and reverts the app to the default version. However, once re-enabled, users should be able to install fresh updates without a problem.

While most reports appear to be from OnePlus 8 series users, there are a few from individuals with devices such as the OnePlus 6T.

Luckily, it appears that OnePlus is aware of the Gallery app compatibility issue and is actively working to fix the bug as per OnePlus Support on Twitter.

OnePlus support, in response to a user’s complaint regarding the issue, confirmed that the company will release an update by the end of February that will fix the problem.

This means that affected users may have to wait a few more days before they can install the fresh updates to the OnePlus Gallery app.
