New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 16, 2022) follows:

Innovative yet affordable OnePlus smartphones come with an alert slider that makes them quite distinctive from other Android phones.

This feature lets users manage ‘sound’ and ‘vibrate’ mode by simply moving the slider up and down, but unfortunately, the recent OnePlus 10T misses out.

However, the feature becomes redundant when it fails to perform the only function it’s supposed to do. That said, many are reporting an issue where the OnePlus alert slider is not executing commands correctly.

Instead, the alert slider is opening the ‘Find in page’ when browsing in Google Chrome and other Chromium browsers. We’ve added a few reports about the issue below for reference:

on my OP8T, while browsing the web using chrome, changing the alert slider position, activates the find in page function 🙂 anyone else having this issue ?

Most say the issue occurred after the update to OxygenOS 12, but there are also a couple of reports from those still on OxygenOS 11. However, the latter seems limited to Nord 2 units that first shipped with a ColorOS codebase.

I’m in oos11 op Nord 2 and it’s happening to me as well

My Nord 2 has always had it and still on OOS 11. But I think the Nord 2 already had ColorOS codebase on A11…

Furthermore, the issue with the alert slider opening ‘Find in page’ when browsing Chrome isn’t exactly new, at least going by reports we have from months ago.

Brave and Microsoft Edge users have also reported a similar issue where their OnePlus alert slider failed to perform the desired task. This suggests it could be limited to Chromium-based browsers.

Potential workarounds

OnePlus developers have been unable to address the issue so far. But fortunately, we have come across a workaround that might help mitigate it.

It simply requires switching to Firefox browser, which, as you guessed, isn’t based on Google’s Chromium engine.

Happening to me to, but I use Firefox so it’s fine there

While there hasn’t been any official word from Google or OnePlus, using Firefox seems like the most viable alternative for now. But we’ll update the story as and when something noteworthy comes up.

Update 1 (Sept. 22, 2022)

11:38 am (IST): Some OnePlus 10 Pro users have noted that the issue where alert slider is opening ‘Find in page’ in Chrome persists even in the latest Android 13 update.
