OnePlus 7 Pro charging issue after Android 10 beta update comes to light

Gone are the days you had to wait for at least a couple of hours to get your smartphone charged. Today, you can plug it in for like 10 minutes and leave your home with enough battery juice, thanks to all the fast charging technologies OEMs tout.

The chipset vendor Qualcomm has Quick Charge in many devices whereas its rival MediaTek flaunts Pump Express. Of course, phone companies also have their own versions to fasten the charging process. Take OnePlus’s Warp Charge and Oppo’s Super VOOC for example.

OnePlus astonished everyone with their Dash Charge technology on OnePlus 3, which could charge a 3000 mAh battery up to 60 percent in half an hour. Although they had to ditch the name due to trademark issues, the technology thrived to become Warp Charge with enhanced capabilities.

Warp Charge 30 first came into existence by the time OnePlus 6T McLaren edition launched. It could charge a 3700 mAh battery up to 50 percent within 20 minutes. Of course, it is a definite step-up from what the predecessor offered.

In May 2019, OnePlus 7 Pro hit the market with its 4000 mAh battery. The company claimed their technology can deliver 2000 mAh within 20 minutes. Considering the increase in capacity, 20 minutes is again an upgrade from OnePlus 6T. And, things were going quite well!

Now that users received Android 10 update, is everything the same? Nope! More than half a dozen posts we pulled out from different online platforms shed light upon a charging issue on OnePlus 7 Pro that started with Android 10 open beta update. You can read one of them below.

I have Android 10 Beta 2.
With the official cable/adapter it charges all the time, but when I use other cables/chargers it’s only charging when I turn off the device.
I already bought a new cable, and it’s also doing the same when connected to a laptop via USB C.
When I power off the device, it charges. When it’s on, it sometimes charges, but sometimes no.

On further investigation, we could spot many worried users. Not just beta, even the stable build is having the same issue. However, it looks like the official charger doesn’t exhibit the problem. And, after a reboot, people confirmed the trouble disappeared to come back again after a while.

Looking at the concerns surfaced online, we could deduce that the problem is haunting those who try to charge OnePlus 7 Pro via USB PD chargers. A few users shared third-party USB-A to USB-C chargers worked flawlessly.

The Chinese smartphone vendor hasn’t addressed the issue yet. So, for the time being, you’ll have to use the official charger or opt for another USB-A to USB-C one. If and when an OTA fixes the trouble, we will be updating this story.
