Original story:

Although not as big as the call dropping problem, a couple of more OnePlus 6 issues have come to light. One is related to display, while the other one is related to the stock Messages app. Let’s quickly discuss them one by one.

No GIF support in Messages app

The stock Messages app that comes with OnePlus 6 doesn’t let users send GIFs. The problem was first highlighted by a user on Twitter, and was confirmed by a Googler Angana Ghosh (Product Lead for Gboard) in the same thread.

So turns out the official SMS app in OnePlus 6 doesn’t support the Android Image Keyboard API, which is a requirement for any messaging app to send/receive GIFs and other rich content.

No option to scale to 16:9 aspect ratio

If you remember, the OnePlus 5T featured an option (Settings > Apps > Full screen apps) to choose between 18:9 and 16:9 aspect ratios (with the first one being the default). The ability to switch to 16:9 helped users in many cases, especially when dealing with apps that work best in 16:9.

Sadly, there is no such option in the OnePlus 6. And understandably, users aren’t happy about this.

There are reports about this problem on official OnePlus forum as well as Reddit.

OP6 Aspect ratio compatibility issues from oneplus

Logically speaking, the responsibility of apps displaying correctly lies with app developers. But realistically speaking, it’s not possible for all developers to update their apps quickly enough, so a OP5T-like option is necessary in OP6 as well (which features 19:9 aspect ratio, not 18:9 like 5T).

We’ll have to wait and see if and when OnePlus adds these two missing features to its newest flagship.
