OnePlus may not be part of the Android One program that promises to deliver timely software updates in tandem with Google. However, it took the Chinese smartphone vendor less than three weeks to roll out the stable version of Android 10 to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.
The company’s OxygenOS is one of the best skins out there and in fact, some people actually prefer it even to Google’s very own Pixel Launcher. It is simple and easy to use and often tends to include features that are useful and not just bloatware.
With OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro now out of the way, the company’s next focus now turns to the duo’s predecessors, OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. The two have been testing the beta version of Android 10 for months now, but this was only limited to developers.
Last week, the company pushed a minor software update that was thought to be preparing both OnePlus 6 and 6T to receive the Open Beta version of Android 10. However, fresh reports say this update has been delayed.
Apparently, OnePlus feels that the first Android 10 Open Beta build they hoped to release to OnePlus 6 and 6T units isn’t good enough for public use after it failed internal testing procedures.
Looking at the issues some OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro users are facing following the update to Android 10, it makes sense that the company would want to be more careful with the software it releases to the masses.
As for when the OxygenOS Open Beta update based on Android 10 will be released for the 2018 pair, we can’t really say. On the brighter side, we do have a schedule that puts the OnePlus 6 and 6T Android 10 stable update release date somewhere in October/November 2019.
Whether the company will actually meet this date now that the Open Beta has been delayed is another story, but we do hope things will turn out perfect to avoid any bad memories of the OnePlus 2, a great device that never received the much-deserved second OS upgrade to Android Nougat.
