Android 11 was officially unveiled earlier this month and has since rolled out officially to Google’s own Pixel line of devices with more OEMs set to follow suit.

While Android phone makers continue to work on their respective custom skins for their eligible devices, the developer community is already coming through for various device owners in spades!

In the past few weeks, we have seen various teams rolling out Android 11 ROMs for devices, most being in a relatively stable form with little to no bugs. Most recently, we’ve seen OnePlus 5/5T get Android 11 courtesy of YAAP.

Today, again, thanks to the Android developers, users of the OnePlus 3 and 3T, along with users of the OnePlus Nord, don’t have to stay shackled to Android 10 builds.

Let’s first look at the OnePlus 3 and 3T. These are old devices at this point. Launched back in 2016, the OnePlus 3 and 3T ran on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 and 821 chipsets respectively and launched with Android 6.0.1 out of the box.

The device has since been updated to Android 9 Pie and that is as far as OnePlus would support them.

Today, an Android 11 build is available for owners of these devices, courtesy of the team over at Havoc OS.

This build is still in its Alpha stage so you might want to tame your expectations on stability and bugs. On that note, we still don’t have a list of features that are working or broken in this release so stay tuned for that.

Should you want to test this build on your device, below is the download link.

  • Device: OnePlus 3/3T
  • Channel: Aplha
  • Version: Havoc-OS-4.0-[11.0.0_r3]
  • Android: 11

Also getting an Android 11 treatment courtesy of the developer community is the OnePlus Nord. Launched earlier this year, this device ran Android 10 with the company’s OxygenOS 10 on top.

Today, users of the Nord who would like to try out Android 11 on their devices can do so by installing an AOSP ROM.

The only bug/issue present in this build is the Selinux is set to permissive. The developer says this should be set to Enforced in the next build. To be fair though, this seems like an issue that is affecting all early Android 11 ROMs.

Should you want to zhuzh up your OnePlus Nord with Android 11, below is the download link to this firmware.

  • Device: OnePlus Nord
  • Codename: avicii
  • Channel: AOSP Beta
  • Android: 11
    • Type: Recovery

The fact that an Android 11 build is already available for the 4-year old OnePlus 3 is clear indication that modern devices still have a lot of life in them when OEMs pull the plug on official support. We hope to see devices supported for longer in the future.

Also, Android 11 custom ROMs have surfaced within weeks of the official unveiling of this new version of Android. This is an amazing pace of development by the developer community. We can only hope to see OEMs replicate the same pace of development for the official builds.
