AI has become a key selling point for Google, with Pixel 8 showcasing its prowess across various features. The Pixel 8 Pro takes it a step further, having received additional AI enhancements in the December 2023 Feature Drop, including Video Boost and the Gemini Nano on-device AI model for Recorder. Not to be left behind, Samsung is now reportedly stepping up its AI game in the next major Android update for its Galaxy phones, One UI 6.1. Leaked images suggest the company will adopt Google’s popular generative AI wallpapers that debuted on the Pixel 8 series alongside several other AI features.

One of the most eye-catching Pixel 8 features was the AI wallpaper app, which allows users to generate unique personalized designs. And it seems Samsung wants to join the party, at least if recently leaked images are to be believed. First posted by X user @BennettBuhner, the screenshots reveal One UI 6.1 will bring these same generative AI wallpapers to Galaxy phones.

Similar to Google’s implementation, users will select a general topic and configure various options to create their desired wallpaper. In fact, the leaked screenshots show the exact same prompt (“a hazy image of lavender plants on a backdrop of red space galaxy”) and initial preview image as seen on the Pixel 8 series for the topic “Bloom.”

This striking similarity suggests Google has plans to share this feature with Samsung. The only noticeable difference between the two is the user interface – Google’s preview is fullscreen, while Samsung’s is more compact. Additionally, the Pixel version says “Inspire Me” instead of “Surprise Me” on the option button. The leaks also point to several other AI-powered features coming to One UI 6.1, including:

  • Weather effects on the lockscreen
  • An editor feature similar to Google’s Magic Editor
  • “Auto Format” for notes
  • Live translation during phone calls
  • Voice isolation
  • New photo editing features

Here’s a video of the new One UI 6.1 AI Wallpapers in action.

One UI 6.1 is expected to launch next month alongside the Galaxy S24 series, offering Samsung users exciting new AI-powered experiences. So it won’t be long before we find out more details about Samsung’s other AI features.
