Developed and published by Jagex, Old School RuneScape is a popular multiplayer online role-playing game launched in February 2013. Since its initial release, the game has received plenty of improvements via regular updates.

However, after installing the latest game update, many Old School RuneScape players have been reporting different kinds of issues with the game such as FPS drops, lagging, and crashing issues.

Old School RuneScape lagging and FPS drops issue

Many OSRS players have taken to social platforms to report (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) that they are facing low FPS and crashing issues on mobile that are making the game completely unplayable.

Here are some reports from those affected:

Ever since they started implementing improvements to mobile it has slowly gotten worse for me. It started with random crashes with the game just closing out. And now today, the frames are so low it’s pretty much unplayable, and that’s just with me trying to afk mine, nothing too intensive. (I have an iPhone 11) (Source)

Im lagging down to 0.5 frames per second when doing mlm, but not when doing herb runs (though slight laggs still occur) Sometimes it closes the app completely out of nowhere. Never had this before the last update. Anyone with the same experience? (Source)

Luckily, Jagex support has acknowledged the lagging issue and confirmed that they are currently investigating it.

But there is also a potential workaround that may help you resolve this glitch until devs come up with a definitive fix. You can check it out below.

Workaround for lagging issue:

For anyone who’s having a lot of lag while playing mobile in MLM or WC Guild make sure to turn off respawn timers and restart the app to clear up lag. I had this problem today up until clanmates told me the fix. Hope this might help someone! (Source)

Old School RuneScape crashing issue

Apart from lagging and FPS issues, some gamers are also complaining (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) that the game is crashing for them on mobile. Those affected say that the game randomly crashes and closes out.

Below are some reports from disgruntled players:

Not sure what’s going on but I’m randomly getting crashes as I go to teleport or most recently, enter the catacombs. I was catching lag just chopping teaks, no tick manipulation or anything, and then this started. I’ve hoped worlds, messed with my wife and cellular data but still not sure if it’s my phone or server side. Hoping somebody else has an answer or is experiencing the same things. (Source)

Fortunately, the support team has also acknowledged the crashing issue with the game and they are working to resolve them.

Moreover, they’ve also stated that the issue is apparently caused by on-screen overlays, and disabling the overlays such as the Mining or Woodcutting timers will help those affected mitigate it.
