New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 20, 2021) follows:

Oculus is a popular VR content and gaming platform that offers both hardware and software. Games and apps can be downloaded through the Oculus Store.

But, in recent days, many Oculus users have been reporting multiple problems related to installing software on their devices/headsets.

It seems that there is an error with the Oculus Store that prevents completing purchases, downloading or installing games, due to the process getting stuck (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

Reported issues while downloading or installing games through Oculus Store

Multiple reports from users of these devices agree on the same thing. It appears randomly when they try to do some process related to downloading a game.

Basically, when the user of an Oculus device tries to download or update a game from the Store, it gets stuck. Then, the system does not allow downloading anything else because that download is active.

My Oculus Quest 1 and 2 have been working great ever since I got them, but it seems like couple weeks of go I cannot get them to update or install anything unless I have the headset on. I used to just queue everything, set it down, and it would turn its screen off and keep updating. Now when I pick it back up it has made no progress and I would not like to wear it for large downloads constantly.

I have a 64 gigabyte oculus quest 2. So recently, I checked through my games list and saw that a few needed updates. Pressed on all of them to update them as I played something else. A few days later, they were all still not done. Realized it’s because RecRooms update hadn’t finished installing. I left it on overnight to see if it would finish, but it didn’t finish installing recrooms update.

This could be solved with a download prioritization system. But, the system does not include any similar option.

Oculus is aware, there is a potential workaround

On December 15, the Oculus team confirmed that they were aware of the issue. The next day, the company reportedly solved the problem through an update.

But, the reports of affected users continued to arrive days later. So, in a more recent reply (December 20), Oculus confirmed that they are still working on solving the bug.

Hello Stvrrrx, we hope you are well.
We are aware of the issue and we are working on a fix as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and recommend trying your order again at a later time.

However, if you have this problem, there is a potential workaround that you can try. Basically, you should find the app ‘com.oculus.ocms’ and clear its data:

IST 05:30 pm: For those who are still having this issue, Oculus support suggests trying factory reset after activating Cloud Backup.

We are aware that some people are having trouble installing apps. If you have a game or app that seems stalled out for more than a few hours, ensure that you have the Cloud Backup feature enabled and perform a factory reset. After completing the reset, updates should resume. (Source)

Moreover, the company still recommends users to factory reset their devices. However, this does not resolve the issue for some.
