Nokia is a widely known brand. Being in the smartphone industry for far too long, the company has seen its share of rise and downfall. The company was at a peak in the 2000s whith its huge range of smartphones serving different customers.

However, the OEM almost vanished from the scene, soon after they joined hands with Microsoft and launched the Windows OS based smartphones. All credits to HMD Global for reviving the iconic brand by deciding that Nokia will make Android-based devices, and will work on feature innovation.

The impact was seen on the big picture when Nokia again got the limelight it deserved in the Android smartphone market. As per Counterpoint Research, Nokia was ranked No.1 in the list of time taken by top 10 manufacturers to upgrade their portfolios to the latest Android version.

Software updates is one of the most important things expected by the user out of a smartphone brand. Here, Nokia again hit the ball out of the park as, according to the report, 96% of Nokia smartphones sold after Q3 2018 (till Q2 2019) are already running Android 9 Pie operating system.

We have also previously covered posts for various Nokia devices receiving the latest security updates being pushed out timely. Adding to that, there are more Nokia devices i.e. Nokia 8, Nokia 6 (2017) and Nokia 5 (2017), that have started to receive the September 2019 security patch.

Talking about the update received on Nokia 8, it brings in the latest security patch. The update weighs around 91MB in size and won’t be too huge for downloading via mobile data or WiFi.

The update has arrived a day shy of October but, it is way faster than other OEMs where still August security update are being pushed out. Just for reminder, the Nokia 8 has been left out from the Android 10 update cycle. The reason seems pretty clear, the device has surpassed its major OS software support window.

Another device that has got the September update is the Nokia 6 (2017). This clearly conveys the company is continuing its security support for the older devices as well. The patch weighs 125.6MB in size and is totally incremental in nature.

Besides, note that apart from the security update, all the respective updates mentioned above do not bring in any new feature or enhancements for the devices.
