Nokia and Essential have proved that rolling out timely security updates is not a superpower of Google. Even relatively obscure phone makers nowadays do manage to push out regular patches to their devices.

Samsung is also doing a stellar job in this segment. Not only their current-gen flagships, but also a bunch of mid-rangers from the product portfolio have already secured the January 2020 security patch.

Despite being a prominent name, Xiaomi is slightly lagging in this field. Their Android One phones are yet to receive the stable Android 10 update, while MIUI-laden devices are taking precedence. The trend continues as Redmi Note 8 is now blessed with the December 2019 patch.

Currently available in China, the OTA brings the software on this device to version V11.0.4.0.PCOCNXM. Other than the bump in security patch level, the update also brings a number of improvements and fixes. Below is the complete changelog of this build:

Another candidate is here, but this one is running vanilla Android instead of MIUI. We are talking about Nokia 2.3 – an entry level phone featuring MediaTek Helio A22 chipset, a 6.2-inch IPS LCD display and a 4,000 mAh battery.

The storage department is rather modest for its class – 32 GB internal storage with 2 GB RAM. The phone runs Android Pie out of the box, and Nokia promised to bring Android 10 update very soon.

The phone was launched only a few weeks ago. In fact Nokia 2.3 is yet to hit the shelves in many markets where it is expected to be officially available. As such, this is the very first software update going out to the phone.
