Netgear is a well-known name in the networking segment. The company offers multiple routers and modems that seek to satisfy the needs of each type of user.

The Netgear CAX80 modem router is one of the company most capable products. This also translates into its price, which is usually around USD 500.

However, it seems the device is having a serious issue that makes it unusable after a few months.

According to multiple reports, the expensive Netgear CAX80 modem router is getting bricked or unresponsive for many users.

Many Netgear CAX80 modem routers are getting bricked

The issue in question has been going on for several weeks. Social platforms like Twitter and the Netgear support forum are full of similar reports.

When the Netgear CAX80 ‘brick issue’ occurs, only its power LED will remain on. All other LEDs will not light up and users will not be able to even attempt a ‘factory reset’.

CAX80 Power Only Light/Unresponsive

I came home the other day to find my Netgear Nighthawk CAX80 with only the power light on. No other lights. Does not show up in WiFi on any of my devices. Tried power cycling multiple times, as well as unplugging the coax. Nothing. Tried reset button multiple times, even holding it in while cycling the power. Still nothing. Tried holding the reset button for 30 seconds, one minute +. Nothing.

No response from support

I am trying to get a rma. My cax80 does not boot. power led turns on but no other leds turn on. no devices see a wifi signal from it. no attached devices receive a ip address. holding down the reset button while powered on does not produce a confirmation flash of reset or do anything for that matter. the thing is dead and ive only owned it for 3 months.

Netgear reportedly not honoring the warranty

Some users affected by the issue tried to assert the Netgear warranty.

However, the Netgear response suggests that the warranty will not be honored as current stock of the CAX80 is for sale only, not for replacements.

Netgear doesn’t seem to honor warranty

I bought the CAX80 and it failed under warranty. Netgear has them in stock for new customers but support says the stock they have is only for new purchases only, not warranty replacements. Can you believe that bullshit?
