Netflix recently discontinued the basic $9.99 ad-free plan for new or returning members in the US, UK, and Canada.

And, by looking at the reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) it appears that this news has not been well received by some.

The Basic ad-free plan allowed for standard definition (SD) streaming on one device at a time and was a popular choice among budget-conscious Netflix viewers.

Now, customers in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada have three options: the $6.99 ‘Standard with Ads’ plan, the $15.49 ‘Standard’ plan, and the $19.99 ‘Premium’ plan.

However, this change has left several subscribers dismayed, especially those who valued the old plan for its uninterrupted viewing experience. They are now even thinking of canceling their membership.

Some are of the view that the platform doesn’t offer a wide selection of quality shows or movies and they don’t see the point in paying more for less value.

While others believe that it is a better option to switch to alternative streaming platforms like Disney+.

A subscriber argues that even when the platform cancels fantastic shows, they still want people to sign up for their pricey services.

Another is of the view that one should opt for purchasing physical media instead of buying expensive monthly memberships.

Netflix doesn’t even have that many good shows or movies, if that’s the case I’m just gonna cancel.

A few members are also requesting others to cancel their subscriptions as a protest against the recent changes to the plan structure.
