Fitness enthusiasts have multiple apps and tools specially designed to help them maintain and track their physical progress over time. MyFitnessPal is one of the most popular names in this segment.

Like other similar apps, MyFitnessPal allows you to enter multiple items and parameters. In this case, the app is focused on keeping a constant control of your daily meals.

MyFitnessPal database includes more than 14 million food records along with their nutritional information. You can see separately items like calories, fat and protein.

You can use the app for free in an ad-supported version. However, it seems that a recent MyFitnessPal update brought some unskippable fullscreen ads that are frustrating many users.

The new MyFitnessPal fullscreen video ads system

Before the latest app update, the ads were more discreet and less annoying. But now it seems that MyFitnessPal has moved towards a more aggressive ads model with unskippable fullscreen videos (like in ‘freemium’ games).

Do you have the latest update?

According to the most recent Apple App Store reviews, the latest update is a flaming hot pile of garbage. The people are complaining that video ads are popping up when they try to quickly log their food just like ads in a free game that you have to watch for like 30 seconds or something.

Anyone have that experience? I’m already annoyed that the app doesn’t always sync with the activity from my Apple Watch after a previous update.

New Popup Ads Are Extremely Annoying

I don’t mind ads, they support the free version of the app and I support that but these new full page popup ads are extremely annoying and get in the way when I just want to quickly log something.

The change is bothering many users who have been used to a much less intrusive ad system for years.

Users looking for alternatives and suggesting a new ad-free subscription

The annoyance of users with the new MyFitnessPal full screen video ads is such that many are already looking for alternatives to stop using the app.

MFP Alternatives (new ads unbearable)

Hey guys, I’ve gotten super frustrated with the unskippable, full screen, video ads. I’ve used MFP for like 8 years but these new ads are just unbearable. I started using Nutra Check’s Calorie Counter and so far so good. It’s pretty much a 1:1 in terms of features and how it functions.

On the other hand, some users suggest that the company should apply an ad-free subscription system for a price of around USD 10 per year.

MyFitnessPal team responded to user suggestions saying they will consider an ad-free subscription option for future updates.

Thanks for taking a minute to share your suggestion around an ad-free only Premium option with us. We will definitely consider adding it for future update
