Update 1 (Jan 04, 2024)

06:12 p.m. (IST): The issue has been acknowledged by the devs. A fix is in the works.

MWIII inactivity timer ack

Original story follows:

MWIII has a very active and significant online component, which is why the devs have implemented many systems to ensure fairness, including an inactivity timer. This timer restricts the players from camping. However, according to player reports, this system is unfair, and it is breaking the game. But worry not, here are some workarounds for the issue.

MWIII alleged unfair inactivity timer

In Modern Warfare 3 (MW3), players have reported being kicked for inactivity despite being active in the game, such as sniping or holding a position.

This issue is likely due to the game’s inactivity timer, which is designed to prevent players from going AFK (away from the keyboard or controller) for extended periods.

The timer seems to be quite short, sometimes less than 30 seconds or even around 15-20 seconds, depending on the mode. The same issue was also present in MWII.

To avoid being kicked for inactivity in MW3, players should:

  • Keep moving around the map and changing positions frequently to signal to the game server that they are active.
  • Avoid staying stationary in one position for extended periods, as this may trigger the inactivity timer.

However, naturally, it is not possible to always abide by these rules, as players do need to stand still to aim their sniper rifles and ambush enemies. That is why we have some workarounds that could provide some relief.

Workarounds

While the devs were still silent on them, the community took the issue into their own hands and shared their workarounds.

Here are some of them:

  • Once a player gets their highest streak, run around (maybe 5 x 5 feet) into different covers or back to the same spot.
  • Players can’t stay in the same building. They need to get 1 or 2 kills, then move to a completely new spot/different building/ or different alleyway.

However, these are community-sourced workarounds and the results could not be as expected.

Note: We have more such stories in our dedicated gaming section, so be sure to follow them as well.
