Original story (published on April 07, 2021) follows:

The Motorola Moto G9 Play, aka Moto G9 in India, launched towards the tail-end of August last year. While the names differ, both these devices share identical specifications.

And since the two phones come pre-installed with Android 10, they are currently in line to bag the update to Android 11. To know more about the upcoming OS update, you can head to our dedicated tracker.

That said, as Motorola Moto G9 and G9 Play users await Android 11, some are experiencing ghost touch issues on their devices for a few months.

Hi, my son has a similar problem with ghost touches with the moto G9 Play. For the first 14 days, the son did not have a micro SIM, so he only used the mobile phone via wifi and there was no problem. But when we inserted the sim, then the mobile phone started generating ghost touches. Obviously, the weaker the telephone signal, the greater the problem of touches. (we have a very weak signal at home) Therefore, the problem seems to be related to actual power of a GSM radio module.:/ (Source)

I also have the same problem with my moto g9 I suspected that the ghost touches are only happens during the network is changing, like if you are receiving or making a call, the network will change from 4g to 2g, also when you travel outside you city the phone will try to connect other network and then it will show multiple touches just like the screenshot. Some Motorola Moto G9 and G9 Play users have claimed that the ghost touch issue pops up at random while others claim that it only becomes an issue while making phone calls.

A user has also shared video proof of the ghost touch issue on their devices. Check it out below:

Unfortunately, those who are experiencing ghost touch issues elsewhere may still have to visit the service center. It’s possible that the fix may go live with the upcoming Android 11 update for the Moto G9 and Moto G9 Play.

As usual, we will keep track of the situation and will post an update once new details emerge. So stay tuned to PiunikaWeb for more information on this and other similar issues.

Update 1 (April 14)

The Motorola Admin has confirmed that the company has sent out a new update for the Moto G9 and Moto G9 Play which should address the ghost touch issue. The build number is QPX30.30-Q3-38-69.

Hello everyone, please check to see if you have a software update on your phone. The update with the improvements for this should have started going out in the last few days. I believe the build# is QPX30.30-Q3-38-69. Let me know if you’ve received the update to this build and if you continue to experience ghost touching while on phone calls. (Source)
