[Updated] Some Motorola Edge+ 2023 & Moto Edge 40 Pro owners experiencing Android Auto USB connection issues

The Motorola Edge+ 2023 and Moto Edge 40 Pro are high-end smartphones that are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and feature a 144Hz refresh rate OLED display.

In addition to this, both phones offer good picture and video quality thanks to the triple-lens rear camera system, with a 50MP main and ultrawide sensor and a 2MP depth sensor.

You can also click high-quality selfies with the help of the 60MP front camera. And if you didn’t know, well, the two are the same phone but use different names in their respective markets.

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple Motorola Edge+ 2023 and Moto Edge 40 Pro users are experiencing difficulties establishing a USB connection to their car’s Android Auto.

It has been asserted that the phones continually connect and disconnect, preventing one’s car from recognizing their devices and Android Auto from initializing.

And to add to their troubles, you cannot get rid of this problem by booting the phone in Safe Mode or even factory resetting it.

A Motorola Edge 40 Pro owner says that Android Auto doesn’t start when the phone is connected to the car with a cable unless the phone is unlocked.

They also mention that enabling the ‘Start Android Auto while locked’ setting doesn’t help address this issue.

Another claims that this problem does not persist across multiple phones, indicating that it is a compatibility issue with their Motorola phone itself.

And understandably, users have taken to the Motorola Community forums to express their concerns.

First week with the new Edge Plus 2023. It will not connect to Android Auto. I have a 2020 Acura MDX. My Edge Plus 2020 connected fine. When I plug the new phone into the specified USB slot it continually connects and disconnects to the charging port and the car screen says no device found.

I purchased a brand new Edge 40 Pro yesterday. I tried to connect the phone to my car using a USB cable. It doesn’t work.

Those affected have even tried reaching out to Motorola’s customer support but have not yet received any software update or solution addressing this bug.

As per the claims, the problem seems to be related to the USB cable used, as only the original cable, together with a USB-C to USB adaptor, allowed someone to connect to Android Auto.

Users are now once again requesting the developers to resolve this problem as soon as possible so that they can easily connect their cars with Android Auto.

Unfortunately, Motorola has not officially responded to the matter nor has Google, and we did not come across any potential workarounds. So, it looks like those affected might have to wait for a while.

In the meantime, we’ll continuously monitor this topic and update this article with the latest developments.

05:51 pm (IST): We have come across a potential workaround for the issue and it includes buying a wireless Android Auto adapter.

05:53 pm (IST): There is another workaround for the Android Auto USB connection issues. A user was able to fix it by using a long (12-inches) USB C to A cable. So, the size of the cable also seems to matter.

I have been able to establish consistent USB communication with the car using a 12-inch USB C to A cable. It appears that cable length is important. Fortunately, they are not expensive. The one (actually a pair) I purchased –

06:35 pm (IST): According to Max Weinbach, a known tech enthusiast, Google is working to debug the connectivity issue with Android Auto.
