Motorola recently released the Android 13 update for Motorola Edge+ 2022 (also known as Moto Edge 30 Pro outside the U.S.) which brings a ton of new features, bug fixes and improvements.

For instance, the update introduces a redesigned personalization panel with support for more color palettes, an updated notifications panel, and a redesigned Music Player.

In addition to this, support for Bluetooth LE audio and per-app language were added as well. However, it appears that the recent update has also introduced some bugs.

Motorola Edge+ 2022 screen flickering on auto refresh rate mode after Android 13 update

Multiple Motorola Edge+ 2022 users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) are experiencing a screen flickering issue when using the phone in auto refresh rate mode after installing the latest update.

It has been alleged that the display color changes from gray to black when scrolling the screen. Some experience this change when using an app or accessing a sub menu.

Others also claim that the display’s refresh rate keeps toggling between 60 Hz and 144 Hz repeatedly. However, it appears that the phone’s OS makes use of different color profiles for both refresh rates.

Due to this, users are seeing the screen flickering phenomenon. Some even say that the color profile on 60Hz is way better than on 144Hz.

Interestingly, a Moto Edge 30 Pro owner alleges that the display also flickers when using the auto brightness mode.

The screen flickered, the problem disappeared after setting the screen refresh rate to 60HZ, it seems that the problem comes after choosing the automatic screen refresh rate.

Some of those affected have tried generic troubleshooting steps such as rebooting the phone in safe mode, and factory resetting the device but without any success.

Official acknowledgment

Luckily, a Motorola agent on the community forums says that the company has officially acknowledged this issue and is currently working on a fix. However, no official ETA for the same has been given.

Potential workaround

You can try disabling the auto refresh mode and enabling a stable refresh rate, either 60Hz or 144Hz for a potential fix.

That said, we do hope that Motorola will soon resolve the screen flickering issue when using auto refresh rate mode on the Moto Edge+ 2022 and Edge 30 Pro devices.
