While smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and Xiaomi extensively customize their user interface, Motorola is one of the few companies that offers a near-stock Android experience.

Called My UX, Motorola’s custom Android skin is known to offer a bloatware free experience. Unsurprisingly, it is also one of the most uncluttered and light skin. That said, the company has a bad reputation when it comes to keeping phones updated.

That said, Motorola Edge 20 and Moto G50 users who recently updated their devices to Android 12 are now reporting that they lost 5G connectivity.

Many suggest 5G has suddenly disappeared from the preferred network type option in Android network settings. Some initially thought it was a bug and tried putting their phone on Airplane mode and factory resetting their devices but nothing helped.

It has been 2 weeks since the Android 12 update. That is 2 weeks of having a phone that is operating at about 50% of its potentil due to the lack of 5G support. When is motorola/Lenovo going to get off their preverbial and get this issue resolved. In all the responses I have not seen any inkling that Lenovo/Motorola even have a clue as to what is the cause. If this is the case, please release a patch which will enable users to revert back to Android 11. Not very happy……

I’ve downloaded the Android 12 update on Monday 18 April evening (around 8p.m CEST). The update was applied the next morning (Tuesday) at around 6.30am CEST. Before the update, I was able to have 5G network connection. After the update, the 5G doesn’t seems to work anymore. My phone is only showing 4G+ in the status bar (top right corner). I’ve checked (as already mentionned in the previous post) the network preferences and it only shows “4G & 3G & 2G” or “3G & 2G” or “3G only” or “2G only”. No option for 5G is showing. I already tried to reset APN settings and network settings without success.

Thankfully, Motorola developers seem to be aware of the issue and said it will be fixed in a future update. But there is no ETA on when the problem will be resolved.
