MK 1 is a newly released reboot of the beloved fighting game franchise, Mortal Kombat. The game features multiple chapters in its story, each focusing on various characters from its roster.

In chapter 11 of the story, which centers around the character Sindel, there is an issue (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) with the subtitles during a dialogue sequence between Sindel and Reiko.

Mortal Kombat 1 Sindel subtitles code

Instead of showing Sindel’s dialogue, “Know that it will cost you your life,” the subtitles display an absurd code: MK12_148_154.11.

Interestingly, this code mentions the game’s name as MK 12 (Mortal Kombat 12) instead of MK1. While MK1 was originally the 12th installment chronologically, it was reverted to the first installment due to being a reboot.

Official acknowledgment of the Sindel subtitles code issue in Mortal Kombat 1

Official acknowledgment of the Sindel subtitles code issue has been provided by the support team at NetherRealm Studios.

According to their statement, the issue is currently under investigation:

During the cinematic before the fight with Sindel and Reiko there is missing text in the subtitles and is instead replaced with MK file name. It is supposed to say something to the effect of “know that it will cost you your life” (Source)

With this official acknowledgment, it is expected that the issue will be resolved in the near future.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on any further developments.

Update 1 (September 25, 2023)

05:17 pm (IST): Unfortunately, the error code ‘MK12_148_154.11’ still continues to trouble players in Mortal Kombat 1.

Update 2 (September 26, 2023)

05:18 pm (IST): Some players (1, 2, 3) are having so much fun making memes on this bug that they don’t even want it to get fixed.

Update 3 (September 28, 2023)

07:18 pm (IST): One player believes that the code ‘MK12_148_154.11’ in the ‘Sindel’ subtitles may be the name of the audio file for that scene.

Saw that watching Max’s stream when the game dropped. Likely the name of the audio file for that particular scene.
