A few weeks ago, a vulnerability was discovered in Android devices powered by certain Exynos chipsets (including the successful Google Pixel 7). The vulnerability could be exploited through the ‘Wi-Fi Calling’ feature.

Therefore, multiple carriers started recommending their users to disable the feature until a fix was available. One of those carriers was Mint Mobile.

However, now Google Pixel 7 users are currently unable to reactivate the ‘Wi-Fi Calling’ feature after having disabled it earlier. Some users of smartphones from other brands are dealing with the same thing too.

Once users started receiving notifications about the vulnerability, many immediately disabled the ‘Wi-Fi Calling’ feature on their smartphones.

The Google Pixel March update brought the fix to the issue for the company’s smartphones. However, Pixel 7 (and other phones) users are experiencing issues when trying to re-enable Mint Mobile ‘Wi-Fi Calling’.

Wifi.callimg no longer available on my pixel 7

I received the notification from mint about the wifi calling security issue and confirmed via other sources online. Turned it off then saw online that march update supposedly makes pixel 7 safe to use wifi calling. Updated phone, and now when I try to turn it on, it keeps failing telling me to contact my carrier.

No Visual Voicemail or WiFi Calling on Pixel 7

So I decided to give Mint another chance after leaving a few years ago since their website mentioned visual voicemail is a working thing now. Well I tried several times with Mint support to get it up and running and no dice. I also followed the troubleshooting instructions on the FAQ.

Users should be able to reactivate the feature through the Mint Mobile app. But, they are unable to use it even after receiving the confirmation text.

It’s noteworthy that even users of smartphones from other brands that were not affected by the vulnerability are experiencing issues when trying to activate or use Wi-Fi Calling on Mint Mobile (1, 2).

That said, there is a potential workaround that has helped other users resolve or mitigate the issue:

Visual Voicemail not working for some on Mint Mobile as well

Besides, there are also some people unable to use the ‘Visual Voicemail’ feature on their devices.

Visual Voicemail on Mint Mobile

For about 3 weeks now I’ve been having issues with getting visual voicemail active again on my pixel 5a. It had worked fine, until some in December it just became inactive.

I’ve done everything I can think of, resetting the network, resetting the app’s data, uninstalling updates, disabling wifi and vpn, having my carrier reset my voicemail. Nothing works.
