Microsoft Edge Developer Beta allows one to experience features that are not yet available in the stable release. These include, but are not limited to, experimental features, new tools, and early access to upcoming features.

It also provides developers with the opportunity to test their apps and websites and experiment with new features and tools in a preview environment.

This can help them identify and fix any compatibility issues before releasing them to the public.

Microsoft Edge dev (beta) ’rounded tabs’ suddenly gone or missing

On May 23, Microsoft released version 114.0.1823.11 of Edge dev (beta) that introduced enhanced security mode, which is on by default, and an option to attach the Edge sidebar to the Windows desktop and workspaces.

This patch also gives a rounded appearance to the browser’s tabs. The company recently decided to switch back to the old tab appearance in the latest beta build.

However, by looking at the reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), it appears that this decision has not been well received by some users. They claim that curved corners for the browser’s tab bar provided a more visually appealing design.

Users have highly appreciated the aesthetic appeal that rounded tabs in Microsoft Edge provided and felt that they enhanced the overall browsing experience.

And understandably, they are disappointed as they can no longer personalize their browsing experience according to their needs.

One of those affected alleges that Microsoft keeps deteriorating the overall experience with each subsequent update. They also complain that the title bar has become buggy in various ways after the recent patch.

In addition to this, one cannot restore the original rounded tab appearance even after tinkering with various flags.

Another user claims to have switched back to Chrome because of the mica effect. They also mention that they are able to customize the browser’s appearance into an acrylic style.

Writing this because I noticed that the rounded tabs and corners were gone. I was only using (dev)Edge because of this. Thought it looked clean. I’ll go back to Vivaldi or Opera GX then, that’s a shame.

Those affected are now requesting the developers to bring back the rounded tabs on the browser.
